As the NASA's Mars rovers, the Spirit and Opprotunity, continue to send back images and information that there may have been life on Mars, a lesser known mission has yielding impressive and shocking new data.
Begun near the end of the 90's, NASA has sent a team of scientists to Washington, D. C. searching for signs that intelligent life still exists in the District. While few doubt life exists, there has long been speculation that some of the life may in fact be intelligent.
"Part of the reason to explore space has been to see if we are alone in the universe, if there is or was life on some alien land, and it appears there is" says NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe, who met reporters at a press confrence Monday.
While some people are surprised that this intelligence was able to develope in what is essentially an intellectual vacuum, those involved offered a different perspective.
"All of us who went to high school know that nature doesn't really abhor a vacuum. I mean, otherwise half of my high school's football team's skulls would have imploded, so I must say that while the findings were exciting, they are not surprising to me," Sean O'Keefe said later in the press confrence.
So who is it that holds the distinction of Mr. or Ms. Intelligent Life D.C?
A five-year-old golden retriever named Rascal.
A dog? "Yes, it was a dog, but a very impressive dog. He listens to commands, he can roll over, play dead, ..All around, an amazing creature," said O'Keefe. "Did you expect it would be a human something?"
