Considering the 10 year aniversary of the lead Nirvana singer, Kurt Cobain, killing himself was Monday, give or take 24 hours they say, and today is Wends., and with my puntuality, this would be a good day for an Eric-like tribute.

I liked Nirvana ever since Weird Al introduced the band to me. It was the first band that I knew of that didn't let their lyrics get in the way of the music; the music always drowned out their senseless words. They paved the way for other bands like them, with the lead singers slurring their words together and occassionally screeching into the mic. Evanescence comes to mind.

Weird Al always has been a major force in my music choices. Ever since I first heard his "Smells like Nirvana," his parody of "Smells like Teen Spirit," I have greatly enjoyed heavy rock with slurred vocals. By the way, if you have yet to here "Smells like Nirvana," you have yet to laugh.

My mom hasn't been in favor of me getting the Nirvana Greatest Hits cd, something about the whole Kurt Cobain drugged-up suicide might cause me to do the same. Of course. But some of the lyrics are weird, I must admit, like the thought process of a, well, suicidal drug-addict.

To be sure, I have actually heard a Nirvana song only a couple times, but any band that inspires such classic songs for Weird Al as "Smells like Nirvana" is one I like. Also, a band that strikes fear into my mom's heart when I express a desire to buy their greatest hits album also is a friend of mine. The more my mom thinks I'm going goth or punk, the more fun I have.
